Muga Silk – Muga silk is the product of the silkworm Antheraea assamensis endemic to the state Assam in India. The larvae of these moths feed on aromatic leaves of som and sualu plants. It was previously reserved for the royalty in Assam where the royalty and senior mandarins were prescribed clothing made of this silk
The silk produced is known for its glossy fine texture and durability. It is commercially available only from India. This silk can be hand-washed with its luster increasing after every wash. Very often the silk outlives its owner.
